Thunderbird is unique in that it has a downloadable add-on application to make connection to Google via IMAP a complete doddle.
Please download the add-on from here and save it somewhere you can easily find it again on your hard drive.
Once downloaded, open Mozilla Thunderbird and select Tools > Add-ons :- These screen shots are from Vista. XP, Linux and MAC may look slightly different
Ensure Extensions is highlighted and then press Install.
Find the downloaded file on your hard drive (called gmail_imap_account_setup-1.6.21-tb.xpi) and install it.
Once installed you may need to restart Thunderbird
Restart Mozilla Thunderbird and select Tools > Account settings :-
Select Add Account :-
Select Google Mail IMAP (Google Apps) and click Next :-
Enter Your Name, the name you would like to be known as.
Enter your main Email Address (you@yourdomain.co.uk) as shown here.
