Open Moxilla Thunderbird and select Tools > Account settings :- These screen shots are from Vista. XP, Linux and MAC may look slightly different
Select Add Account :-
Select Email account and click Next :-
Enter Your Name, the name you would like to be known as.
Enter your main Email Address (you@yourdomain.co.uk) as shown here.
PressNext :-

Ensure POP is selected and not IMAP
Enter (pop.gmail.com) into the Incoming Server box as shown above.
Press Next :-

Enter a suitableAccount Name.
Press Next - and you should get a summary screen something like this:-

Change the Port: to '995' .
Under User secure connection:, select SSL
Thats it....
If you haven't set up your SMTP server for outgoing mail you will, in addition, be asked to fill in these details.
The details of these depends in your internet provider and you should use their recommended settings.
These will have been provided to you when you setup your broadband or dial-up connection.
